RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY (RDOD)
Dogs are unmatched in their devotion, loyalty and friendship to humankind. Anyone who has ever loved a dog can attest to their wavered love and affection. Owning a dog is a commitment not to be taken lightly. It is not just a privilege but a huge responsibility. Our dogs depend on us at a minimum for food, shelter, and deserve so much more. If you are considering bringing a dog into your life it is a serious decision. If you already own a dog you need to consider if you are a responsible dog owner.
In September, the American Kennel Club call on its more than 6,000 Clubs to help celebrate Responsible Dog Owner Day. This nationwide initiates help to educate the public about being a responsible dog owner and celebrates the deep bond between owners and their canine companions.
At the Northeastern Maryland Kennel public education is a key initiative. We want to help our local canines and their family to practice responsible dog ownership
The Responsible Dog Ownership Days are a great opportunity to try activities like free style dancing, obedience, rally and agility with your dog! The motto for the day is “My dog can do that!” and they really can at this event! You and your dog will love this day! You will enjoy free demonstrations like freestyle dancing, search and rescue, Sheriff’s Department K9 work, and grooming techniques. You can also talk to veterinarians, meet the breeds, take the Canine Good Citizen test (fee), Trick Dog test (fee, all levels), get your dog’s nails trimmed (fee), a micro chip (fee) or even a dental examination (fee). Admission is free and there’s food available for you and your dog. NEMKC is a two time winner of the AKC”s prestigious Community Achievement Award for our Responsible Dog Ownership Days.
